About Microsoft Health

Our healthcare technology focuses on preventive care, quality delivery and lowering medical costs.

Microsoft is working on technology solutions for every area of health. We envision a future where patients are in control of their own healthcare, providers have exactly the information they need and can focus on prevention and personalized care.

We align our goals to make sure that we contribute to improving healthcare in Europe through software innovation. Recently, we sponsored a Report - Towards a Healthier Europe, which looks at how innovations in eHealth can improve medical care, increase efficiency, and create new jobs.

Our infrastructure products and unified software development tools have helped facilitate the creation of a thriving partner ecosystem to develop and support a broad spectrum of healthcare applications. In 2005, Microsoft created a Health Solutions Group to focus on the development of products and solutions specifically to improve the health delivery system.

Improving Access to Health Data is of paramount importance for the success of Healthcare Innovation.  To address this need we created Microsoft® HealthVault™, an Internet-based platform for data storage and sharing.  People can store copies of their health records from providers, their health plans; upload data from home health devices such as blood glucose monitors and digital scales; provide data to healthcare professionals, coaches and trainers; and access information, products and services to help improve their health.  Microsoft worked with other leaders across the industry to ensure appropriate privacy and security standards.

With the aim to enable Patient-Centered Care for hospitals and health systems, in 2008 we launched the Amalga family of products. Amalga Unified Intelligence System (UIS) is a comprehensive health intelligence solution that aggregates and stores information from across a hospital’s or health system’s existing legacy systems, enabling organizations to use that data efficiently and innovatively in one place in real time, including scans, images, device data and any other type of electronic data. Amalga Life Sciences helps transform healthcare and life sciences research data into the critical knowledge needed for the discovery of new personalized treatments.

Microsoft invest in research programs such as the Microsoft Research’s European lab , in Cambridge, UK, which plays a key role in the application and development of computational methods and tools for modeling and analyzing complex biological systems.
